Here is a sample conversation:
A: What do we eat?
B: Don’t know.
A: Where do you want to eat then?
B: Up to you.
Does it sound familiar to you? I bet. We are on the same boat here. Finding restaurants, especially in a new city, is the process of trial-and-error or having locals recommend to you. So below is the list of phone apps and/or websites that you need in different cities to have the culinary experience like a local, compiled by yours truly.
A random photo I took. 😛
Open Rice (http://www.openrice.com). This can be used in Singapore, Thailand, Phillippines, China, etc. as well. Sometimes, when you write reviews on the site you can enter yourself to win a free meal from participating restaurants, which is cool. I love free food. Available on Google Play and AppStore.
Lady Iron Chef (http://www.ladyironchef.com). Many addresses recommended here have mid-end to high-end price range. But since Singapore is expensive as always, you can always try. 😛
The Smart Local (http://thesmartlocal.com). TRY THEM OUT! My life in Singapore depended on them.
Mangoplate (http://www.mangoplate.com) . Available on Google Play and AppStore.
Yelp (http://www.yelp.com). Available on Google Play and AppStore.
Lozi (http://www.lozi.vn) This app is best used in Hanoi, Vietnam. Available on Google Play and AppStore.
Foody (http://www.foody.vn) This app is best used in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Available on Google Play and AppStore.
For other towns and cities like Da Nang, Hoi An, Hai Phong, etc., use the combination of both Lozi and Foody.
I will continue updating this post when I travel to/ live in other places. If you have any recommendation for other cities and countries, please comment below and I will add them to the post. Thanks a lot!
